Russian missile hits Mykolaiv
New Delhi, Aug 3: A Russian missile strike on the southern Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv has damaged residential buildings and civilian infrastructure, according to local authorities. At least three civilians were reported injured in the attack, which is the latest in a series of shelling incidents in the Black Sea port city, reports BBC. In a separate incident early Sunday, a large fire broke out at an oil depot near Sochi on Russia's Black Sea coast. Russian officials attributed the blaze to a Ukrainian drone strike. Air traffic at Sochi’s Adler airport was temporarily halted due to the attack. Authorities said debris from a drone struck a fuel tank, triggering the fire, which prompted a response from over a hundred firefighters.
The oil depot strike was part of a broader wave of Ukrainian drone operations over the weekend. Additional targets were reported in the southern Russian cities of Ryazan, Penza, and Voronezh. Four injuries were confirmed in Voronezh following one of the strikes.
The renewed escalation follows a deadly missile barrage on Kyiv last Thursday, which Ukrainian officials say killed at least 31 people. Over 300 drones and eight cruise missiles were launched in what authorities described as one of the most severe assaults on the capital since the war began in February 2022. Ukrainian officials have renewed calls for tougher international sanctions against Russia in the aftermath of the attacks.
