Ruhullah's supporters hold protest in north Kashmir's Sonawari over CM’s remarks
Bandipora, Oct 27: Protests erupted on Monday evening in Nowgam, Sonawari area of Sumbal in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district over Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s remarks against Srinagar Member of Parliament Syed Agha Ruhullah.
The protests broke out after the Chief Minister brushed off reporter’s question about Ruhullah, stating that he was nothing in comparison to Mian Altaf. The remarks angered his supporters. Soon after Maghrib prayers, protesters assembled in Nowgam, raising slogans hailing Ruhullah’s character while criticising the CM’s remarks as "disrespectful," saying he should “come to his senses.”
The angry protesters said that without Ruhullah, the NC would “limp.” The demonstration, however, dispersed peacefully later in the evening.
This was the second such instance of protests breaking out in the area. On 21 October, supporters of Ruhullah in Nowgam, staged a protest against Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, demanding an apology for his remarks against Ruhullah.
