Srinagar, Apr 9: PDP President Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday alleged that the ruling National Conference (NC) members in the Legislative Assembly, knowingly created ruckus to ensure that three important bills, cleared by Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha do not get a passage in the House.

Addressing media persons at the party headquarters, Mehbooba said , “We are repeatedly witnessing a drama in the Assembly, where members of the ruling party are creating ruckus. There was much more to the noise than what appears to be. She added that the Lieutenant Governor had cleared three bills. “One of the bill was regarding regularisation of daily wagers, who have been working on low wages. However, unfortunately that bill could not get a passage,” the PDP President said.

As per Mehbooba, another Bill introduced by PDP MLA Waheed Parra pertaining to handing over of land to poor people, which was also cleared by the LG but did not get a passage in the assembly. She said an important bill regarding ban on sale and consumption of liquor was also stalled by the “noise and ruckus” in the Assembly.

She said Muslims of the country are “facing the onslaught of the BJP” and alleged that one the other hand, a Union Minister of the same dispensation Kiren Rijeju was warmly welcomed by Omar Abdullah and Dr Farooq Abdullah, thus sending across a message to all the Muslims of the country that government of J&K was in favour of what has happened in the Parliament and the changes that have been made to the Waqf Bill. “This sort of a gesture has further weakened the spirits of Muslims in India. Except the National Conference and its leadership, everyone is opposing the Waqf Bill but all secular parties in the countries have opposed this Bill,” she added. This is the same population (Muslims) that is already feeling alienated and going through a lot of suffering,” she said.

Mehbooba said her party will rope-in a senior counsel in the next two to three days and will subsequently challenge the amendments made to the Waqf Bill in the court of law. When asked about issuance of Domicile Certificates to non-locals, Mehbooba said: “This is nothing new. A satellite township is coming up here for which lakhs of kanals of land is being allocated but CM Omar Abdullah is watching it silently. One wonders what this land is being allocated for. The 83,000 non-locals given domicile is also quite staggering and an agenda which Omar sahab is implementing,” she added.
