Sopore, Sep 6: In a stern crackdown on the sale of rotten and unhygienic meat, Sopore Police, assisted by the Food Safety Department and FCS&CA officials, carried out extensive market inspections across Sopore town and its outskirts on Saturday, registering multiple FIRs against violators.

As per the statement issued, the raids were conducted under the supervision of Executive Magistrates to ensure transparency and adherence to legal protocols, following reports of substandard food being sold to unsuspecting customers. During the drive, serious violations were detected at several locations.

At Watergam in Rafiabad, raw food items unfit for consumption were seized from the shop of Ab. Hameed Bhat and Hotel Heaven, run by Iqbal Rasool Tantray. Police registered Case FIR No. 101/2025 at Police Station Dangiwacha.

Similarly, at Bus Stand Sopore, shopkeeper Abid Ismail Bakhroo was found selling chicken in unhygienic conditions, while poultry waste was dumped openly, creating foul smells and posing health hazards to commuters. Case FIR No. 177/2025 was registered at Police Station Sopore.

Police officials said such practices not only deceive consumers but also pose grave risks to public health. “Ensuring the health and safety of the public is our top priority. Anyone found indulging in such practices will face strict legal action without leniency,” a police spokesperson warned.

Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and report any instances of unhygienic or unsafe food sales to the nearest police station or concerned department.

Officials said the coordinated action highlights the administration’s resolve to safeguard public health and enforce strict food safety standards in Sopore and adjoining areas.
