Road Safety awareness event held at DPS Srinagar
Srinagar, Sep 15: As part of ongoing efforts to promote road safety in the region, the Kashmir Road Safety Foundation (KRSF) and Traffic Police City Srinagar jointly organised a road safety awareness event, Mission Save Lives J&K, at Delhi Public School Srinagar.
The organizers said the initiative aims to educate students on the importance of road safety and empower them with the knowledge needed to become responsible road users.
The event provided numerous benefits to the students, focusing on awareness, education, behavioral change, empowerment, community engagement, and practical skills. Through interactive sessions, students learned about traffic rules, pedestrian safety, the necessity of wearing helmets and seatbelts, and the importance of safe practices when walking or cycling.
Speaking at the event, SSP Traffic City Srinagar Muzaffar Ahmad Shah highlighted the importance of road safety education for students, saying, “Educating young people about road safety is a vital step toward reducing accidents. These students are the future drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians, and teaching them the rules today will help save lives tomorrow.”
A drawing competition on the theme of ‘Road Safety’ was also held for students of Classes 11 and 12, with Ainan Mushtaq securing the first prize, Saniya Zainab the second, and Shifa Ajaz the third. Nasir Ali Khan, Chairman of KRSF, praised the active involvement of students and stressed the significance of such initiatives, stating, “Targeting schools for road safety awareness is not just an idea; it is a necessary step in shaping a safer, more responsible generation of road users.”
The transport head at DPS Srinagar, Jahangir Baqal, emphasised the importance of investing in children’s education, adding, “By teaching our children about road safety today, we are paving the way for a safer, accident-free future.”
The event was attended by senior officials of traffic city Srinagar & KRST along with the students and faculty of DPS Srinagar.
