Road repair, debris clearance works disrupt traffic on Sgr-Jmu NH
Ramban, Mar 15: Vehicular traffic movement on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was disrupted for around one hour due to road repair and mud clearance work at Dalwass on Friday morning.
Traffic officials said that vehicular traffic was halted at 9:10 am at Dalwass for necessary repair works and it was restored around 10:30 am.
They said, “After repair works, the highway remained open for two-way traffic of passenger Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and one-way traffic of heavy vehicles. After clearing scheduled LMVs and heavy vehicles for Jammu, heavy vehicles, carrying essential supplies, were also allowed to move towards Kashmir from Udhampur in a regulated manner on Friday evening.”
Official sources said that the highway remained open for one-way traffic but the movement of traffic remained slow due to the narrow carriageway at the mud and landslide-affected Dalwass area of Nashri, near the Chenani-Nashri tunnel and due to the breakdown of two heavy vehicles.
The officials monitoring the regulation of traffic on the highway in Ramban said, “Due to single-lane at Dalwass, Mehar-Cafeteria, Panthyal, Hingni, Gangroo, Nachlana, Kishtwari Pathar and poor road surface conditions at several places between Nashri and Banihal sectors, traffic movement remained slow on the highway throughout the day.”
They said that hundreds of LMVs and heavy vehicles crossed the Nashri-Banihal sector for their respective destinations till late this evening.
Meanwhile, the J&K Traffic Police Department issued a fresh advisory for Saturday stating that subject to fair weather and road conditions, passenger LMVs would be allowed on both sides whereas heavy vehicles would be allowed from Udhampur to Srinagar.
