There is an increase in fire mishaps for quite some time now. Reports regarding gutting of residential houses, shops, and other structures keep on pouring from different places from time to time. It has been noticed that the occurrence of fire incidents increases during autumn and winter. While such incidents keep on occurring throughout the year but there is an increase during the two seasons. Stocking of dry grass and firewood and frequent use of heating appliances lead to fire incidents in autumn and winter. Sometimes electric short-circuits are the cause of fire. Property worth crores of rupees gets destroyed every year in these mishaps. Families are rendered homeless and they have to shift to other places for temporary rehabilitation. The permanent rehabilitation takes times and needs finances. To prevent the occurrence of fire incidents it is important to take precautionary measures. Stocking of dry grass and firewood should be safely done. The heating appliances should be also carefully handled. Such appliances must be put off when not to be used. For preventing short circuits necessary repairs should be made if needed. People from several areas have been demanding fire stations. At some places such a demand is very old and has not been met. Such demands must be considered and wherever there is a need for a fire station it should be established there. The fire stations must have adequate man-power and equipment. Fire stations' personnel are able to extinguish fire and prevent it from spreading further if they reach immediately on the spot. The fire personnel too should be fully equipped to deal with fire related situations. They must be allowed to work without any unnecessary interference from the locals at the spot. A number of personnel receive burn injuries during their work. They risk their lives to extinguish the fire. The fire fighters should have adequate reserved water with them so that if there is any water shortage in the fire affected area, the problem is solved. Going to get the reserved water at the time when structures are on fire affects the fire fighting operation. There is a need to take precautionary measures by the people to prevent fire mishaps. There is no scope for carelessness, which later proves costly. Government on its part too must further improve the infrastructure, and upgrade facilities in the fire and emergency services department.
