RFYS U-19 girls football tournament kicks off at GVEI

Srinagar, Jul 26: The Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS) U-19 girls football tournament began with an action-packed start at Green Valley Educational Institute (GVEI) Srinagar on Saturday, featuring three one-sided contests that set the tone for the two-week event.

As per a statement, in the inaugural matches, Comrade FC maintained dominance throughout the game and scored 15 goals against the team of Woodlands School, who could not score a single goal till the last minutes of the game.

In another match, Downtown Heroes displayed their dominance by defeating SRM Welkin School by scoring six goals. The opponent team did not score a single goal in the match.

In the last match of the day, the team from Kashmir Harvard School defeated GVEI with a 2–0 win.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman GVEI Mohammed Yusuf Wani expressed his delight for hosting the tournament event.

“It is a privilege for our school to provide a platform for young girls to showcase their talent in football. Such tournaments are vital in nurturing sportsmanship, teamwork, and confidence among our youth.

We are committed to supporting initiatives that promote holistic growth through sports,” he said.

The statement further states that since its inception in 2013, Reliance Foundation’s sports programmes have positively impacted nearly 23 million children across India, spanning over 13,000 schools, colleges, clubs, and academies. With a strong commitment to promoting gender equity in sports, the Foundation has designed its initiatives to provide more platforms and opportunities for girls and women athletes.

The Foundation also supports over 200 athletes in 10 Olympic disciplines through scholarships and access to elite training facilities. Its football initiatives include the RFYS grassroots league, RFYC Naupang League, RFYC Coastal League, and the prestigious Reliance Foundation Young Champs (RFYC) academy, India’s top-rated football academy, which has produced over 40 professional players to date.
