The residents and traders however demand proper maintenance of the bridge. They also said that authorities should install food outlets that can provide livelihood to locals.

“It is a good thing that the bridge was finally renovated and turned into a good spot like Zero Bridge and Lal Chowk. We hope that with many locals and tourists visiting here in the past few days, this will increase the footfall of shoppers in the area,” said a local shopkeeper.

The bridge saw a buzz of locals and tourists who were seen clicking selfies. They said that the place is historic, and they are glad that it has been restored in a good way.

“I am now heading towards my old age, but I vividly remember that this place used to be our place of daily commute during my schooling. We have good memories attached to this place. Such historic bridges must be restored. As I heard about the inauguration of the place, I brought my kids here for a visit,” said Altaf Ahmad, a local from Downtown.

Some visitors are aghast over the lack of dustbins and benches at the bridge. They appealed to authorities to ensure installation of basic things to help in keeping the place clean and convenient for visitors.

An official from Srinagar Smart City said that they will ensure installation of dustbins and benches at the spot.

“The place has just been inaugurated and we will ensure that dustbins and benches will be fixed properly so that people won’t face any inconvenience,” he said.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the revamped old Habba Kadal Bridge over the Jhelum river on January 16. The bridge has a new wooden deck, heritage-styled gazebos and kiosks.
