Srinagar, Jun 29: In a step to strengthen cricket officiating in the region, the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) is set to conduct a five-day umpiring programme under the mentorship of retired international umpire Anil Chaudhary. The training will take place from July 4 to 8, with 15 candidates selected, including 14 from Kashmir and one from Ladakh.

Notably, Skalzang Dorje from Ladakh becomes the first candidate from the region to be part of a JKCA umpiring course.

As per the JKCA officials, the training program will be conducted by Anil Chaudhary and Vikas Dalal, both respected figures in Indian cricket officiating. The course will include classroom and practical sessions focusing on match laws, field duties, and match management.

“These candidates were shortlisted based on their educational background and previous cricketing experience,” a JKCA official said.

“They will be groomed not just for UT-level tournaments but also as future prospects for next-level assignments.”

The official said once trained, the officials will be given priority appointments in JKCA-organised tournaments, with the scope to move up the ladder through performance, fitness, and evaluation standards.
