Srinagar, Oct 30: The Zia Foundation extended its appreciation on the announcement by the Education Minister to reschedule the academic session for classes upto the 9th standard to November-December, starting this year.

“This decision addresses the severe challenges faced by students in Kashmir during the harsh winter months. In Kashmir, winter temperatures often plunge below freezing, creating extremely harsh conditions. Frequent power outages during this season exacerbate the difficulties, leaving students with limited access to lighting and heating. These challenges make it nearly impossible for students to adequately prepare for exams in March. The lack of daylight, combined with the severe cold in January and February, hinders both study time and comfort, impacting students’ ability to concentrate and perform to their fullest potential,” a statement said.

“Holding exams in November-December, before the onset of intense winter, is a welcome move. This adjustment allows students to prepare for their exams in a more stable and warmer environment, free from the severe weather-related disruptions of the winter months.”

Rakib Ahmad Zia, Chairman of the Zia Foundation, praised the government initiative, noting that it reflects a thoughtful understanding of the specific challenges faced by students in Kashmir’s unique climate. He expressed hope that this change will support students in achieving their best without the stress of extreme weather and power shortages.
