Response to August 5, 2019 should be as big as wrongs committed with people of J&K: Sajad Lone

Srinagar, Nov 8: People’s Conference (PC) President Sajad Gani Lone Friday said that the response of the J&K Assembly to August 5, 2019 should be as big as wrongs committed to the people of Kashmir on that day.

Speaking during the Motion of Thanks on the LG’s address, Lone said that the response to August 5, 2019, should be as big as wrongs done to Kashmiris on that day.

“This is the most disempowered assembly but this house is the first assembly after August 5, 2019, and our response to those changes should commensurate with the wrongs perpetuated on Kashmiris on that day,” he said. Lone said that the resolution brought by the government was “ambiguous” and “meek”.

“There are certain ambiguities in the resolution. I beg you to reconsider it,” he said. Lone said that the Police verification is a sword over the youth.

He said that the Police verification should be brought at par with other parts of the country.

“An individual is verified only once across the country but in Kashmir the entire family and even extended family is verified,” Lone said. “The verification is a sword for the youth of Kashmir. If the uncles, aunts, or any neighbour has done something, the aspirant is also being investigated. I am a victim myself. My passport was also denied.”

He said that such a kind of verification was grossly inhuman and unjust.

“All we are saying is that the verification process should be brought at par with Haryana, with Gujarat, with Delhi, and with other parts of the country,” Lone said.

Referring to the Abrogation of Article 370, he said that the will of the people of J&K was subverted without taking the people of J&K into confidence.

“After doing everything, we are here today. If we compare the old assembly with the present assembly, the reality is that we don’t even know what power we have in J&K. Or what power does our minister have,” Lone said.
