Srinagar, Nov 6: Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra Wednesday said that the resolution seeking restoration of special status reflects the dialogue between the Government of India and the people of J&K.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the J&K Assembly session, Karra said that the resolution passed by the assembly seeks restoration of the federal structure of J&K which was snatched unilaterally, arbitrarily, unconstitutionally, and undemocratically by the Centre.

“The way BJP members behaved in response to the resolution moved by the National Conference today, I don't think such things happen in a civilised society or a progressive society. The way they (BJP members) did it, it is not acceptable,” he said.

Karra said that the NC resolution was presented in a varied way which included all the components like restoration of federalism.

“We are a part of federal India. Our federal structure was withdrawn. So we want to restore our federalism, our statehood, along with the guarantees which we had about our land and our jobs,” he said.

Karra said that the resolution passed by the J&K Assembly was for a dialogue between the people of J&K and the Centre that this restoration process should be discussed.

“There was nothing obnoxious in it for which all this ruckus was created in the house,” he said.

Karra said that those opposing the resolution either did not read the resolution or did not want to understand it after reading it.

“Or they want to make it an issue for their politics,” he said.

Karra said that the resolution says that the Government of India should start a dialogue with the people of J&K and that is the representative character which the assembly is holding.

“I don't know what infuriated the BJP members. I think they just want to politicise it," he said.

Responding to the LG's statement that “bulldozers will continue to be run here”, Karra said that nobody was above the law and above the constitution.

“I think their mind is not accepting the change. I think it is better to accept the change as quickly as possible. Once you accept it, nobody will speak such language,” he said.
