Resolution of water crisis issue in Sopore sought
Sopore, Aug 21: The Chairman of Civil Society Sopore, Aashiq Hussain Zaki, lead a delegation to the Jal Shakti Department Sopore, where a crucial meeting was held with Executive Engineer Mushtaq Ahmed Wani. The primary agenda of the meeting was the ongoing water crisis in Sopore and the exploration of effective measures to address the situation.
During the discussions, it was acknowledged that the current water supply infrastructure in Sopore has become outdated and is insufficient to meet the increasing demand. “A comprehensive solution lies in the implementation of the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) programme, which has already been approved for the town. Although funds have been allocated, the project is currently on hold due to the enforcement of the election Code of Conduct.”
It is anticipated that once work resumes, the project will take approximately 18 months to complete. Zaki called on the public to use water judiciously to mitigate the immediate shortage.
Aashiq Zaki introduced the Public Grievance Committee of Civil Society Sopore to Exen Wani. The Committee’s Coordinator, Haji Mohammad Akbar Ganie, highlighted various public concerns, drawing attention to the challenges being faced by residents in relation to the water crisis.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Aashiq Zaki stated, “The meeting took place in a cordial environment, and we will continue our cooperative efforts with the PHE department to resolve the water issues affecting Sopore.”
This meeting marks a significant step toward addressing the critical water challenges facing the town and ensuring the long-term sustainability of water supply in Sopore.
