Kupwara, Aug 16: The residents of Machipora and adjacent villages in north Kashmir’s Handwara Sub District have said that although the Health sub centre located in their locality was upgraded to New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC) a few years ago, that decision has been confined to papers only. They have sought the promised upgrade.

The residents said that in 2018, authorities upgraded Machipora Sub Centre to NTPHC but then nothing was done with regard to implementing the decision on ground.

“After the announcement, we were told that a separate double story building would be constructed, moreover staff would also be augmented but nothing has been done so far in this regard,” Bashir Ahmad Bhat a former panchayat member told Greater Kashmir.

He said that the present building of the health centre was in dilapidated condition, moreover only few employees were posted here which does not fulfil the purpose.

The residents said that even a single doctor has not been posted here resulting in severe hardships to the locals. “We fail to understand why our health centre was upgraded when staff was not to be augmented. Even for a small ailment we are supposed to visit Associated District Hospital GMC Handwara,” they added.

The residents have appealed to the Additional Deputy Commissioner Handwara Aziz Ahmad Rather to intervene in this matter so that the hardships being faced by the people may end.
