Residents of Downtown areas resent inflated electricity bills
Srinagar, Mar 18: Residents of several areas of Downtown Srinagar have voiced their concerns against inflated electricity bills issued by the Power Development Department (PDD).
Several residents said that they have received Rs 1680 electricity bills per month, a significant increase from previous bills.
Muhammad Amin, an auto driver from Saida Kadal said that “I am shocked to received inflated electricity bills.”
"Meeting the basic needs of my family is already challenging. Earlier, I used to pay under Rs 1000, but Rs 1680 is not affordable for me," he said.
Farooq Ahmad, a resident of Rainawari said that the inflated bills are “unacceptable.”
Superintending Engineer ( SE), Circle 1st Javaid Dar said the people who have issues should visit concerned PDD offices “to resolve only genuine cases.”
“We will also check how much electricity is being used by these households. We will install meters everywhere and accordingly they have to pay electricity bills," he added.
