Udhampur, Nov 14: A rescue drive was today conducted by the District Rescue Team to extricate children forced in labour/child marriage and begging here in Udhampur Township.

The team carried out surprise inspections at several locations including Hotels, Restaurants, shops and Rehri stalls to rescue children forced into labour and begging. The rescue team was led by Child Helpline coordinator Hari Krishan and assisted by Counsellor CHL, CWC member, Labour Inspector, Medical Staff, Special Juvenile Police officer, case worker CHL, Outreach worker and Social worker from DCPU.

The team rescued one boy involved in child labour. The child was produced before the Child Welfare Committee for rehabilitation and provided temporary shelter at Palaash, a child care institute for boys in Udhampur.

The team warned that the establishments employing underage children will face legal action under the Child Labour (Prohibition & child labour through regular rescue operations.
