Srinagar, Jul 29: In a significant moment for admirers of spiritual and literary heritage, the republished compilation of two legendary Persian works—Wird-ul-Murideen, a poetic tribute and Dastur-us-Salikeen, a detailed commentary was officially launched at the revered Dargah-i-Sultania (RA).

These seminal texts were authored by the first spiritual successor of Hazrat Sultan-ul-Arifeen Sheikh Hamzah Makhdoom (RA), the eminent scholar and saint, Allama Sheikh Baba Dawood Khaki (RA).

The formal release ceremony took place on Tuesday, coinciding with the auspicious Urs of Allama Khaki (RA), at Dargah Sultania, Koh-e-Maran, Srinagar. The newly compiled edition, presented in a single, beautifully printed and aesthetically designed volume, was unveiled by distinguished religious scholars Maulana Shaukat Hussain Keng Qadiri, Al-Haj Peerzada Shabir Ahmad Makhdoomi, and Peerzada Mohammad Altaf Masoodi.

The dignified ceremony was attended by Syed Shakeel Ahmad Qalandar, Mir Syed Abid Yaseen Kamili, Peerzada Asadullah Makhdoomi, Peerzada Abdul Majeed Makhdoomi, Mohammad Ashraf Inayati, Mir Syed Riyaz Ahmad Kamili, Mujtaba Ahmad Gundroo Suharwardhey, Abdul Rashid Makhdoomi Mansoori, Ajaz Ahmad Baba, among others. Hundreds of devotees and notable personalities from academic, spiritual, and social spheres were also present. The event was organised under the patronage of Ashiq Ahmad, Administrator of the local unit of the J&K Muslim Waqf Board.

On the occasion, Alhaj Shabir Ahmad Makhdoomi shed light on the life, legacy, and scholarly excellence of Allama Khaki (RA) and his deep spiritual bond with Hazrat Sultan-ul-Arifeen Sheikh Hamzah Makhdoom (RA). They described Wird-ul-Murideen and Dastur-us-Salikeen as timeless texts of great spiritual depth and scholarly value.

Maulana Shaukat Hussain Keng Qadiri described Allama Sheikh Baba Dawood Khaki (RA) as a spiritual luminary of 16th-century Kashmir, who not only inherited the spiritual legacy of Hazrat Sheikh Hamzah Makhdoom (RA) but also expanded it through his teachings, writings, and personal example. He said Allama Khaki (RA) was a distinguished theologian, poet, and commentator whose works continue to resonate with seekers across centuries.

He elaborated that Wird-ul-Murideen is a poetic work rich with mystical symbolism, guiding seekers on the path of divine love, while Dastur-us-Salikeen offers deep insights into Sufi practice and metaphysics, making it a vital manual for spiritual aspirants.

“These are not just literary compositions; they are spiritual roadmaps,” he remarked.

Reflecting on the importance of reviving classical Islamic literature, the scholars praised the efforts of Mir Syed Khalid Yaseen Kamili, who, driven by sincere devotion, undertook the republication of these long-lost works. They emphasised that such contributions are essential to reconnecting future generations with their spiritual roots.

Originally translated into Urdu in the early 1970s by the late Prof. Muhammad Tayyib Siddiqi under the title Hirz-ul-Muhibbeen, the texts had been out of print for decades.
