Renowned religious personality Mian Bashir Ahmad Larvi remembered on fourth death anniversary
Kangan, Aug 14: Renowned religious personality and veteran Gujjar leader Mian Bashir Ahmad Larvi was remembered on his fourth death anniversary on Thursday.
Mian Bashir Ahmed Larvi also known as Baba Sahib passed away on August 14, 2021 at the age of 98 at his residence in Wangath Kangan.
Thousands of people from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir including Poonch, Rajouri, Kishtwar, Doda, Jammu and Kashmir reached Baba Nagri Wangath Kangan to offer fateha for the departed soul. On the occasion special prayers were led by Sajada Nasheen Darbar Babi Ji Sahab Larvi, Mian Altaf Ahmed for his father Mian Bashir Ahmad Larvi. Various speakers including Ulemas on the occasion recalled the contribution of Mian Bashir Ahmed Larvi in the field of Social service, literature , sufism and spirituality. Mian Bashir Ahmed Larvi also known as Baba Ji was widely respected and prominently followed across the Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of country and across for his religious and spiritual teachings.
Speaking on the occasion, Sajjada-Nasheen Zayaarat Baba Jee Sahib Laarvi Mian Altaf Ahmad
emphasised the responsibility of everyone to assist society in deterring individuals from the path of social evil. He referred to drugs as the “worst of evils,” highlighting the detrimental impact they have on both the youth and the social fabric. Mian Altaf said that Late Mian Bashir Ahmad would always advising his people to be regular in prayers and stay away from social evils for the betterment of the society.
On the occasion a diary penned by Late Mian Bashir Ahmed Larvi was released in which he had noted various social, political, religious happenings during his time.
Mian Bashir Ahmed Larvi was born in November 1923 in Baba Nagri Wangath, Kangan in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district. His father Mian Nizam Din Larvi and his grandfather Baba Jee Sahib Larvi were also religious personalities.
Mian Bashir popularly known as “Baba Sahab” , believed in a spiritual vision of life and he always stood by his vision. He promoted such values throughout his life among his immediate disciples, general followers and his well wishers. He relentlessly strived for social equality among the masses in general. Mian Sahib was a multi-dimensional personality who led the Gujjar and bakerwals community of J&K in particular, in spiritual, religious, social and political fields.
Mian Bashir was elected as Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Jammu and Kashmir in 1967, 1972, and 1977 from Kangan, Kashmir province and in 1983-84 from Darhal assembly constituency in Rajouri District of Jammu province. Mian Bashir was the only leader who won all the elections in his life that he contested, further, he is the only leader who has fought the election from both the provinces of Kashmir and Jammu and remained elected. Mian Bashir also served as Minister in Sheikh Mohd Abdullah’s Cabinet in 1971, 1977 to 1980.
Mian Bashir Ahmed nominated his son Mian Altaf Ahmed, the current Member of Parliament as the Sajjada-Nasheen Zayaarat Baba Jee Sahib Laarvi Wangath on 122nd annual Urs in June 2017.
Mian Bashir was closely associated with Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, Mir Qasim and Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad. He has been closely associated with various top leaders in India including Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.
