Jammu, Nov 5: The 556th Parkash Parv (birth anniversary) of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj was celebrated with immense devotion, reverence and enthusiasm by the Sikh community and followers of Guru Nanak Sahib across Jammu.

The main Gurmat Samagam was organized by the District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC), Jammu at Gurdwara Yaadgar Sri Guru Nanak Sahib, Chand Nagar, from 10 am to 4 pm.

A large number of devotees from all walks of life visited Gurdwara to pay their obeisance and sought blessings on this sacred occasion.

The Gurmat Samagam commenced with melodious Shabad Kirtan rendered by eminent Ragi Jathas, including Bhai Balvinder Singh and Bhai Gurbhej Singh, both Hazuri Ragis from Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar, and Bhai Simranjit Singh, Kathavachak from Gurdwara Panjhokhra Sahib.

While elaborating on the divine life and universal message of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Bhai Simranjit Singh emphasized that Guru Sahib’s teachings of “Naam Japna, Kirat Karni and Vand Chhakna” hold timeless relevance. He highlighted Guru Sahib’s tireless journeys across the world to spread the message of peace, equality, humility, and selfless service.

He further stated that Guru Nanak Sahib’s firm stand against oppression, his advocacy for women’s dignity, and his belief in universal brotherhood continue to inspire humanity even in the present times.

Apart from the distinguished guests from outside Jammu, local Ragis and Parcharaks who participated in Shabad Kirtan included Bhai Ranjit Singh; Bhai Harpreet Singh (Chohala Sahib); Bhai Gian Singh, and Bhai Satinder Singh, Parcharak, Guru Granth Sahib Study Circle, Jammu, who also shed light on Guru Sahib’s teachings and philosophy.

Various stalls were also set up by religious organizations and the Health Department to serve the visiting devotees. The Guru Ka Langar was served continuously throughout the day to all devotees, symbolizing the message of equality and humility.

The stage proceedings were conducted by Surjeet Singh, general secretary, DGPC Jammu.

Ranjit Singh, president, DGPC Jammu, while addressing the gathering, extended heartfelt gratitude to the civil administration and the entire Sangat for their cooperation and active participation in making the event a grand success.

Senior officers from the civil and police administration who graced the occasion included DIG Shiv Kumar, SP South Ajay Sharma and Dr Vinod Sharma Health officer JMC.

Prominent persons who paid their obeisance on this pious occasion included Tariq Hameed Karra, president Jammu and Kashmir Congress Committee; Raman Bhalla, working president JKPCC; Ravinder Sharma JKPCC chief spokesperson; Balbir Singh, ex MLA; Ved Mahajan, ex MLC; Yogesh Sawhney ex minister; Teja Singh; Vikram Randhawa, BJP MLA, Charanjit Singh, ex MLC; Balvinder Singh, state president POJK BJP president; Varinder Singh Sonu, PDP spokesperson; Sandeep Singh Wazir, spokesperson NC besides the entire team of DGPC Jammu including  Balvinder Singh vice president; Ranvir Singh joint secretary and Jagpal Singh cashier.
