Ganderbal, Nov 19: Grief swept through Baba Nagri Wangath in Kangan on Wednesday as the body of 28-year-old Bilal Ahmad Sangoo, a labourer who lost his life in the recent car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, was brought home for his final rites.

As the ambulance carrying Bilal’s mortal remains entered the village, heartbreaking scenes unfolded.

His family members broke down, supported by neighbours who had known him since childhood. Hundreds of villagers—men, women, and the elderly—lined the narrow lanes, many in tears, as they gathered to receive the body of the young man who had left home years ago in search of a livelihood.

Later, an emotionally charged funeral procession made its way to the ancestral graveyard, where hundreds, including MLA Kangan Mian Mehar Ali, offered prayers and laid him to rest. The atmosphere was heavy with sorrow, with cries of farewell echoing through the cold autumn air.

Speaking to the media, MLA Mehar Ali said the family had always been supported and would continue to be assisted in the days ahead. “The Chief Minister has already said that no Kashmiri should be viewed with suspicion. Whatever help is required for this poor family will be provided,” he assured.

Family members said Bilal had been working in Delhi since 2019, striving to provide for his household. He was among the thirteen people killed in the tragic blast.

According to police officials, the identification process began after a photograph circulating on social media caught the attention of relatives, who immediately approached local authorities. Close coordination between Delhi Police, J&K Police, the MLA, and the Chief Minister’s office ensured that Bilal’s body was brought home without delay.

Still reeling from the shock, the grieving family has now appealed to the Government and the LG administration for compensation and sustained support. “We are a poor family. He was our only hope,” a relative said, holding back tears as villagers gathered around them in solidarity.
