'Real insaniyat, Kashmiriyat': Farooq Abdullah pays tribute to Kashmir resident who died saving tourists in Pahalgam
Srinagar, May 3: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah visited the family of Adil, the young local man who lost his life while protecting tourists during the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
Dr Farooq praised the bravery of Adil calling him symbol of kashmiri bravery. "Adil is a martyr. He gave up his life for others without fear," Abdullah said while addressing the media after meeting the family. “This is humanity. This is Kashmiriyat. We have to fight these forces with courage — with himmat.”
He also commented on the long-standing Indus Water Treaty “We have been talking about this treaty for a long time. Our rivers, our rights — they need to be reassessed. Just look at Jammu; there’s scarcity of water, electricity issues in our regions. This treaty must be reviewed again.” His remarks come amid the suspension of Indus water treaty, the long withstanding water-sharing agreement with Pakistan, by India after the terror attack in Pahalgam on 22 April.
When asked about the statements and comments coming from Pakistan. “I can’t say anything about Pakistan. Bilawal Bhutto keeps making such statements — we cannot take those seriously,” he said, referring to the Pakistani leader’s recent remarks.
He further remarked, “War is not easy” when asked about the possibility of war between India and Pakistan
Moreover, Adil’s father thanked Abdullah for his visit “His support has helped ease our burden, even if just a little,” he said.
