RDD begins road construction work at Palkar village

Bandipora, Dec 19: The administration has begun constructing a road to the remote mountain hamlet of Palkar in the Arin-Dardpora DDC constituency of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

The work started on Wednesday following a report carried by this newspaper titled “Residents of mountainous Bandipora villages face hard time in absence of roads “on December 13.

The report narrated the ordeal of the villagers who have been suffering in absence of the road and have to scale mountainous passes to move in and out of the village.

With the machines moving in for excavation works, villagers are feeling happy that they will finally get a road for the first time, which was their long pending demand.

On Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Manzoor Qadri also visited the village to take stock of the road construction works.

“There was an issue with regards to road connectivity for Palkar villagers, which is a remote hamlet,” the DC said, adding, “They had no road and it was a long demand of the locals.”

He said the road construction works have now been taken up by the Rural Development Department (RDD) under MGNREGA.

The DC said efforts will be made that “both grade I and grade II works are completed this year,” adding, “Other required improvements will be taken up with the concerned department next year.”

The constituency’s DDC member, Mohiuddin Rather said, “We are pleased that the villagers’ long-pending demand has been met,” while also thanking field employees and administration for heeding to the peoples demand.

“Our hearts are full of gratitude, and we are very happy and also proud that the Deputy Commissioner and contractors have visited the village, as no one had shown any concern for our issues until now,” a local villager Irshad Ahamd said. Villager, Aijaz Sanam expressed heartfelt gratitude.
