RCTA,JTA welcome resumption of public transport through Lal Chowk

Srinagar, Jan 12: Regal Chowk Traders Association (RCTA) and Joint Traders Association (JTA)—a coalition of 14 city centre markets—has thanked the administration and the SSP Traffic for their efforts in resuming public transport through the city centre.

In a statement President, RCTA, Farhan Kitab said that public transport had been suspended for several months due to ongoing Smart City construction projects, leading to significant declines in accessibility and foot traffic in the city centre markets.

“This decision to restore public transport is a vital step toward revitalizing the vibrancy of city centre markets. It reflects the administration’s commitment to addressing the concerns of the trade sector,” Kitab stated.

He further noted that improved connectivity will positively impact the retail sector, attracting more customers to the city centre and supporting the livelihoods of thousands of traders.

The Joint Traders Association commends this initiative and looks forward to ongoing collaboration with the administration to ensure the success of both the Smart City project and the development of the local trade ecosystem.
