Srinagar, Aug 30: Afghanistan’s star cricketer Rashid Khan is mourning the loss of his elder brother, Haji Abdul Halim Shinwari, who passed away last week. Several Afghanistan players expressed their condolences on X.
“Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Rashid Khan’s elder brother, Haji Abdul Halim. An elder brother is like a father to the family. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. My heartfelt condolences to @rashidkhan_19 and his family,” wrote teammate Ibrahim Zadran.
Former Afghanistan player Asghar Afghan also shared the news: "It is with deep sorrow that I learned of the passing of the elder brother of @rashidkhan_19 (Haji Abdul Halim Shinwari). May Allah grant him the highest ranks of Paradise (Jannat al-Firdaus) and bestow beautiful patience upon their esteemed family. Ameen."
The Pakistan cricket team paid tribute to Rashid Khan’s late elder brother in a touching gesture after their opening T20I clash in the ongoing tri-series. A video of the moment has since gone viral, drawing appreciation from fans across both nations.
On the field, Pakistan put in a dominant all-round performance to outclass Afghanistan by 39 runs at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The match comes just over a week before the Asia Cup.
Chasing a target of 183, Afghanistan faltered early and struggled to gain momentum. Rashid Khan provided some late fireworks with a brisk 39 off just 16 deliveries, but his effort wasn’t enough to turn the game around as Afghanistan ultimately fell short by 39 runs.
