Srinagar, Mar 2: The Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (KPDCL) achieved a significant milestone on Sunday by supplying 1931 Megawatts of power during Sehri time, marking the highest load supplied by the corporation in recent years as the holy month of Ramadhan began.

“It is the highest load supplied by the corporation in the last few years. We are committed to ensuring uninterrupted power supply during crucial Ramadhan hours when demand traditionally peaks,” a KPDCL official said. “During Sehri and Iftaar times the load is high and we are able to meet this demand through careful planning and coordination with central generating companies. Supplying 1900 MW has happened very rarely. It’s primarily due to a good amount of power imports from the central Gencos.”

The official detailed the current power scenario in the region saying, “Presently, J&K is importing 2560 MW of electricity. While the generation from local power plants is down, J&K is generating just 250 MW out of 1100 MW in the state sector.”

This enhanced power delivery follows explicit instructions from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who chaired a high-level meeting on Saturday specifically to review Ramadhan arrangements.

“As the holy month of Ramadhan begins, people rightfully expect the government to take all necessary measures to ensure they do not face any difficulties during this sacred month,” Abdullah said during the meeting. “People want, and we must strive, to ensure that there are no power outages during Sehri and Iftaar time.”

The CM provided specific operational guidance, saying, “Any necessary shutdowns should be well-planned and curtailment could be made during the daytime as per a proper schedule. The maintenance works, wherever required, should also be taken up during the day time.”
