Srinagar, Oct 9: The Committee on Petitions, Rajya Sabha, today visited Gilsar, Khushalsar, and Nigeen lakes in Srinagar.

The Committee on Petitions is on a visit to Srinagar to explore measures to conserve and revitalise the dying rivers across the country.

Earlier, the Committee held discussions with representatives from NLCO, Canara Bank, J&K Bank, Chenab Valley Power Project Ltd., Power Trading Corporation, National Seeds Corporation, and various government departments including the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Power, and Ministry of Jal Shakti, along with JKPCB, JKPDC, JK SFC, JK R&B, Water Resources Regulatory Authority, LCMA, NDF, and other NGOs.

On the occasion, NLCO chairman Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo shared his insights on lake conservation. The NLCO core group included Er. Iajaz Ahmad Naqshbandi (Urban & Regional Planner), and Riyaz Ahmad (Managing Committee Member, NLCO), during the meeting, presented a presentation and memorandum on the conservation and rejuvenation of Gilsar–Khushalsar, along with other significant water bodies, including Dal, Nigeen, Anchar, and Wular Lakes.

Following the formal meeting, on NLCO’s request, the Committee took a field tour of the Gilsar–Khushalsar lakes, followed by a tour of Nigeen Lake.
