Rajnath Singh flags off Indian expedition to Mount Aconcagua
New Delhi, Feb 5" Defence Minister Rajnath Singh flagged off a joint Indian expedition to Mount Aconcagua in Argentina from South Block, New Delhi. Standing at 6,961 metres, Mount Aconcagua is the highest peak in South America and the tallest mountain outside Asia. The expedition is being undertaken by the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM), Uttarkashi, and the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIM&WS), Pahalgam.
Commending the two institutes for preparing the team to meet extreme challenges, Rajnath Singh said the climb would test not just physical endurance but also leadership, teamwork, and mental resilience. He expressed confidence that the team would successfully scale the peak and bring ride to the country.
The six-member team comprises Col Hem Chandra Singh, Capt G. Santhosh Kumar, Deep Bahadur Sahi, Vinod Gusain, Naib Subedar Bhupinder Singh and Havildar Ramesh Kumar. The expedition will begin on February 6 and is expected to conclude by the end of the month. The Defence Ministry said the experience gained during the expedition would strengthen mountaineering training in India and reflect the country’s growing presence in global adventure and mountain exploration.
