Srinagar, Mar 29: Intermittent rains since Thursday evening caused massive waterlogging in various areas of the summer capital— causing inconvenience to residents.

The city witnessed traffic jams on major routes, particularly in Downtown and Uptown areas, where submerged potholes hit smooth movement of vehicles.

Malkhah, Nowhatta,  Khanyar, and Khayam were the worst affected zones in due to waterlogging in Downtown.

"It is difficult to walk on the roads in Downtown. Most of the roads are inundated. The road at Malkha was submerged in knee-deep waters amid rains," said Asiya, one of the commuters.

Similarly, the situation was no different in Rambagh, Natipora, Bemina, Bagh-e-Mehtab, Mehjoor Nagar, and Indra Nagar, among other areas.

Residents said that their movement was restricted due to flooded streets, with many refraining from venturing out in their vehicles.

In several areas, streets were submerged in knee-deep water, attributed to the faulty drainage system.

Moreover, ongoing smart city projects especially in Downtown contributed to waterlogging as road works disrupted the drainage flow.

Officials from the Srinagar Municipal Corporation said that their teams have been dispatched with the necessary machinery to resolve the issues.

"Our men and machinery are on the ground. We have deployed manpower and machinery and are actively addressing the situation on the ground," officials said.
