Srinagar, Mar 10: Kashmir witnessed the onset of a week-long wet spell on Monday as rains lashed several areas, including Srinagar.

The Meteorological Department officials have predicted wet weather across Jammu and Kashmir until the weekend, with intermittent rain and snowfall expected over the coming days.

According to the MeT department, light to moderate rain and snow are likely across Jammu and Kashmir in the next 24 hours.

The weather is expected to remain cloudy on Tuesday, with intermittent precipitation at multiple locations.

Moderate snowfall is also anticipated in the higher reaches of Kupwara, Bandipora, and Ganderbal.

Another spell of light to moderate precipitation is expected between March 12 and 14, followed by intermittent rain and snow at several locations on March 15 and 16.

However, dry weather is likely to prevail from March 17 to 21.

The MeT office has issued an advisory for travellers, tourists, and transporters, urging them to adhere to administrative and traffic guidelines before planning their journeys.

Farmers have been advised to suspend agricultural activities from March 10 to March 18, while residents in higher altitudes have been cautioned to avoid avalanche-prone and steep areas during this period.

Meanwhile, night temperatures across many parts of Kashmir remained 4 degrees Celsius to 5 degrees Celsius above normal over the past 24 hours, while daytime temperatures on Saturday were recorded 3.5 degrees Celsius above normal in several areas.

Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 16.1 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

During the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, Srinagar registered a low of 8.4 degrees Celsius, which was 5.1 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average.

In north Kashmir’s Gulmarg, the mercury dipped to 0.5 degrees Celsius, 4.5 degrees Celsius above normal for the ski resort.

Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district saw a significant temperature rise, recording 4.6 degrees Celsius, a substantial increase from the previous day’s minus 2.7 degrees Celsius and 6.2 degrees Celsius above normal.
