Rains cause waterlogging in Srinagar areas
Srinagar, Nov 10: Incessant rains caused waterlogging in several areas of the summer capital today hampering movement of pedestrians.
Several city roads including Residency Road, Natipora, Chanapora, Sonwar, Batamaloo, Zakura, Khayam, Khanyar and Baba Demb were waterlogged following rains.
Due to waterlogging, people faced problems walking on roads. “Waterlogging is mainly caused due to a defunct drainage system. Authorities hardly carry desilting of drains as a result there is waterlogging during drains,” said Abdul Hamid, a commuter pointing towards an inundated road at Khanyar.
Residents of Khalid Bin Waleed Colony also decried the defunct drainage system. “Waterlogging has made our lives miserable. We cannot even venture out of our homes during rains as our lanes are waterlogged. We have been running from pillar to post but no action has been taken to restore the drainage system in our locality,” they said.
People of Barzulla and its adjoining areas said the dewatering in the area is affected as dewatering pumps don’t function properly in absence of electricity.
