A number of Srinagar roads do not present a good picture during rains. Within a short time the roads get inundated, making the movement of vehicles as also that of the pedestrians, difficult. The condition gets even worse on the dilapidated roads. Since a number of roads and footpaths have been dug up due to the ongoing works under Srinagar Smart City Project; the problems get further aggravated for those travelling in vehicles or walking on foot.

The delay in the completion of the works has been highlighted a number of times by the local residents, who demand speedy completion of the work. According to them, if the works are completed, we can save people from the problems and difficulties they face while they walk on these dug up roads during the rainy days.

After a long duration of heatwave, the rains are finally back. So there will be difficulties in movement on the inundated, dilapidated and dug up roads. The concerned authorities must drain out the water by pressing into service the stationed and mobile dewatering pumps during heavy rains. Secondly, the drainage system needs massive improvement. Deffective and faulty drainage system still exists in several areas.

This system has to be replaced by functional and effective drainage system. The areas which do not have any kind of drainage facility must get it at the earliest. The dilapidated roads need special attention. With every passing day their condition becomes worse. The widening potholes create more problems. Even accidents occur at such places.

The inundated roads lead to traffic jamming on roads particularly during  peak hours of morning and evening. The concerned authorities must take serious note of the dilapidated roads and immediately issue directions to make necessary repairs. The repair work must start immediately and end before winters. If the repair is not done, then during the winter months the vehicular and pedestrian movement will be more problematic.

If this is the condition of roads in the capital city, the condition of roads in rest of the valley can be well imagined.
