Jammu, Oct 19: Jammu Railway Division of Indian Railway has collected over Rs 5 lakh as fine in a single day, while taking action against 845 ticketless and irregular travellers – the highest, so far, for it (Jammu Division).

“To discourage the passengers traveling without or using irregular tickets during the festive season, extensive ticket checking drives are being conducted daily across the Jammu Division of Northern Railway. These ticket checking drives are being conducted daily by teams headed by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Uchit Singhal, at various stations such as Jammu, Katra, Pathankot Cantt, Pathankot City, Srinagar, Budgam, etc,” said Public Relations Inspector, Jammu Railway Division, Raghvender Singh.

Senior Commercial Manager, Jammu Railway Division, Uchit Singhal said, “The fines collected during the daily ticket checking drives during the festive season have increased the railway's revenue, which contributes to the convenience provided to passengers.”

He informed that a comprehensive ticket checking campaign was launched on October 18, 2025, to crack down on ticketless passengers on trains and at railway stations.

Combining the figures from the previous two days, 1,557 ticketless travellers were charged in three days, and a fine of approximately Rs 11 lakh was collected. He further stated that the primary objective of this ticket checking campaign was to curb ticketless travellers so that other passengers were not inconvenienced.

“The Railway administration continuously urges passengers to travel with valid tickets and follow railway instructions,” he said.
