Rafiabad man arrested for killing mother: Police

Sopore, Apr 15: In a heartbreaking incident that shook Rafiabad village in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, a son allegedly murdered his 48-year-old mother.

According to reports, the tragic incident occurred on Sunday night in Hadipora village of Rafiabad when a woman was reportedly attacked with a sharp-edged weapon by her son.

The accused identified as Amir Farooq Wani alias Gajini is reported to be a driver by profession and was arrested within hours of the crime.

Following the incident, the body of the deceased was shifted to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Sopore for legal-medico formalities.

Meanwhile, an official said that soon after the incident, Police reached the spot and arrested the accused son involved in the crime.

The official said that a case FIR No 28/2024 under relevant sections of the law had been registered.

He said weapons of offence were also seized from the spot.

Last year in March, a drug addict son also killed his mother in Dangerpora, Zaingair area of Sopore.

This is the fourth incident in Kashmir where a son has killed his mother since October 2022.

In November last year, a resident of Kehribal, Anantnag killed his mother to steal money from the deceased.

After the murder, the suspect, along with his friend, created a fake story to mislead the people and the Police by blaming his relatives for the crime.

Experts said such gruesome incidents happening at regular intervals in Valley would nudge the society towards a disaster.
