Srinagar, April 22: In a bid to walk the talk on Earth Day, Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM, in collaboration with the Social Forestry Department of J&K, has launched 98Tree—an initiative aimed at planting 983 trees across the Valley. The symbolic number reflects Mirchi’s frequency while underscoring its commitment to environmental sustainability.

In a statement issued, RJs Mehak, Madeeha and Mehmood led the campaign with high-energy on-air engagement, live updates from the ground, and impactful interactions with listeners.
"Aligned with this year’s Earth Day theme—“Our Planet, Our Power”—the campaign aimed to empower citizens, especially youth, to adopt eco-friendly habits and embrace their role in building a greener future, statement reads.

The initiative wasn’t just about planting trees—it was about planting the seeds of responsibility and lasting change.

Speaking about the initiative, RJ Mehak said, "At 98.3 Mirchi, we talk about climate change every single day. There is no Planet B. Real action is essential, and planting 983 trees is a meaningful start”.

“Our shows highlight practical, everyday solutions—carpooling, avoiding single-use plastics, conserving resources. We believe in leading by example.” she added
Mirchi amplified the message across its platforms, urging citizens to take simple steps like tree planting, minimizing waste, and conserving water—proving that even small actions can lead to a massive collective impact.

“Our partnership with Radio Mirchi brought life and reach to the Earth Day drive. Their platform helped us connect with the community in a powerful, relatable way,” said a senior Social Forestry department official.

BSF 64 Battalion also took part and hosted the plantation activity, showcasing the collective spirit of defense forces, civic bodies, and media coming together for a cause.

Appreciating the Radio Mirchi's initiative, Zahid Aslam Moghal, Regional Director, Social Forestry Kashmir said, “We must act before it’s too late. Whether it’s water pollution, land degradation, or deforestation—each of us has a role to play. Every small step counts.”
