Rabid dog bites several in Rajouri, authorities launch containment drive
Rajouri, Aug 10: The District Administration of Rajouri launched an immediate containment drive after a rabid dog reportedly bit several people in different parts of the town, prompting officials to deploy veterinary teams, warn residents, and take urgent measures to neutralise the threat.
According to the office of the Additional District Magistrate, the animal has bitten multiple persons, posing a serious threat to human life and public safety.
The order, issued under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, and provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, directs swift action to prevent further incidents and curb the spread of rabies.
The Municipal Council of Rajouri, in coordination with the Animal Husbandry Department and local police, has been tasked to safely capture or neutralise the rabid dog following veterinary protocols, deploy trained veterinary and animal control teams with protective gear, warn the public to avoid affected areas until the threat is eliminated, and provide immediate medical treatment to anyone bitten or exposed to the animal.
The order comes into immediate effect and will remain in force until the rabid dog is captured or neutralised, officials said.
Officials have appealed to residents to remain alert, avoid the affected localities, and report any sightings of the animal to the authorities.
