Questions carrying 16 marks in Maths paper were out of syllabus: complain class 11th students
Srinagar, Feb 25: There seems to be no end to the miseries of the students appearing in the ongoing annual examinations conducted by the JK Board of School Education (BOSE).
The class 11th students on Tuesday complained that the questions carrying16 marks posed in their mathematics question paper were out of syllabus as the questions were picked by the paper setter from the deleted portion of the syllabus.
A group of aggrieved students told Greater Kashmir that questions carrying 16 marks were out of syllabus including one MCQ which had no correct option available.
"Two questions with six marks each in the long answer type category were also out of syllabus.
Besides the students, the teachers also acknowledged that some of the questions in the question paper were out of syllabus.
"Question number 23 carrying four marks was from Polar form which has been deleted from the syllabus. Question 29 and 30 carrying six marks each from Trigonometric equations and Arithmetic progression were set in paper despite both these topics being deleted from the syllabus," a senior lecturer told Greater Kashmir.
"The grievances of students are genuine and such incidents put students under stress during exams. The Board officials should look into the matter," he said.
This is not the first time that students have complained of out of syllabus questions being asked in examination but such complaints came to fore during class 10th exam as well.
Earlier, one MCQ in the Social Studies question paper had no correct option available. Also, class 10th English paper had an out of syllabus question as well.
Such incidents have raised concerns over the integrity of the paper setters being hired by the JKBOSE.
"The JKBOSE should check the competence of the people who are assigned the task to set the question paper for students and those who commit such mistakes should be blacklisted forever and should not be paid the honorarium for the current task," a senior lecturer told Greater Kashmir, wishing not to be named.
"Such incidents mar the sanctity of the exam and the Board institution as well," he said.
Amid the complaints, the Secretary JKBOSE Sudershan Kumar said they did not receive any such intimation from the concerned superintendent of exam centres. "But since the students have pointed out these issues, we will look into it," he said.
Secretary JKBOSE said that the Board will ascertain the details and remedial measures will be taken accordingly.
