Srinagar, Oct 29: The Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF) has sounded alarm over the worsening water and power crises in Tangmarg and adjoining areas as winter approaches.

Delegations from Waripora, Barzallah, Usson Bangil, Utko, Chichilora, Lalpora, Ogmuna, Tarahama, Heing, Pinjoora, Mangloora, Gonipora, Kunzer, and nearby villages have conveyed to the Forum the acute hardships faced by residents due to the failure of successive administrations to address basic needs.

“Authorities must feel the pain of the people or face the public tune,” said JKCSF Chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani. He said that despite  surrounding areas lying on the banks of Ferozpore Nallah, residents are still deprived of safe drinking water.

He pointed out that nearly 350 inches of water from the Nallah are being drained through hundreds of pipes to other regions, while Tangmarg continues to suffer. Wani termed it a clear case of administrative and political negligence, lamenting that “nothing concrete has been done for years to resolve this human issue.”

He further criticised the return of unscheduled power cuts across Kashmir despite the installation of smart meters, saying it has worsened people’s suffering just as winter is setting in.

JKCSF has appealed the administration, while referring to weather predictions indicating a harsh winter ahead.  Wani appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to direct immediate remedial measures and chalk out a contingency plan before the situation worsens. “The people of Tangmarg cannot be taken for granted year after year. The government must act swiftly to restore public faith,” Wani added.
