PWD SE urged to prioritise repair of roads damaged in Jammu floods
Jammu, Oct 8: DDC Suchetgarh and senior Congress leader Taranjit Singh Tony Wednesday asked the PWD Superintending Engineer Ashwani Sharma to repair roads damaged in Jammu floods on priority.
In this connection, he particularly referred to the badly damaged road near Old Railway Phatak in Ward No 54, which had deteriorated further due to recent floods in Jammu.
Earlier, acting on public complaints, in a swift and proactive move, Tony with a delegation called on PWD SE Ashwani Sharma and apprised him of the poor condition of the stretch.
Responding immediately, the SE directed XEN and AEE of the department to visit the site, assess the damage, and carry out urgent patchwork and repair work without delay.
The officials assured that repair work would commence immediately, restoring the vital link that connected several residential and commercial areas in the locality.
Speaking on the occasion, Tony said that the floods had caused significant damage to many internal roads in Jammu and it was the duty of the administration to ensure timely restoration to prevent accidents and traffic inconvenience.
He emphasised that public safety and smooth connectivity should remain top priorities.
Senior Congress leader also requested the PWD department to take up the roads leading to Barmini, Chata, Panj Peer and Bathindi on priority, as these too were in poor condition and required urgent maintenance.
Tony reiterated his commitment to ensuring that no area was left neglected, particularly those affected by recent natural calamities.
He further appealed to the authorities to adopt a comprehensive approach to road maintenance, including proper drainage systems to prevent waterlogging and damage during monsoon and floods.
The residents appreciated Tony’s on-ground intervention and his consistent efforts to take up public issues with concerned departments.
DDC Suchetgarh assured the people that he would continue to monitor the repair work and follow up with the concerned officials until the project was fully completed.
