Pulwama villages outraged over incomplete road repairs
Residents of several remote villages of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are up in arms against the R&B authorities for their failure to repair a crucial road connecting these areas with the district headquarters.
The road connecting Agarchcek village to far-off area of Sangarwani via Abhama is in a deplorable state, affecting smooth travel and access to these villages.
Haji Mohammad Maqbool, a resident from Abhama said that it takes them more than two hours to reach district headquarters.
“The deplorable condition of the road has significantly increased travel time. To cover a distance of 22 kms, from Abhama to Pulwama, it takes us 2 to 2.5 hours,” Maqbool said.
The aggrieved residents said that the macadamisation of the road was left half way through by the authorities.
Haji Abdul Rashid, another resident said that they brought the issue to the notice of authorities umpteen times but their pleas have gone unheard.
Farooq Ahmad, Junior Engineer R & B told Greater Kashmir that a tender of Rs 2.49 has been floated for the widening and macadamisation of the road.
“We are expecting to start the work soon” said the official.
