Pulwama village road in disrepair, residents demand urgent repairs

Locals said the Pahoo–Checkpora road, which connects several villages to the district headquarters, has been deteriorating for years. Large potholes and broken patches make travel difficult, especially during rain.
“The road was last macadamised about five or six years ago,” said Abdul Hamid, a resident of Hasanwani. “It started deteriorating two years ago, and this year’s floods have damaged it further.”
Shahid Ahmad, another villager, said the road has become unsafe for both pedestrians and vehicles. “It is dotted with potholes, and accidents are common. We have appealed to the authorities many times, but nothing has been done,” he said.
Residents said the damaged road has disrupted daily life and affected access to essential services. “Ambulances, school buses, and trucks struggle to move through. Even short commutes take double the time,” a local added, noting that repeated complaints have gone unanswered.
With winter approaching, locals fear the situation will worsen. “Movement will become even more difficult in the cold months,” said an elderly resident.
