Pulwama marks International Day of Peace through interfaith dialogue
Pulwama, Sep 22: Pulwama marked the ‘International Day of Peace’ with an interfaith gathering aimed at promoting dialogue and cultural harmony.
The event was organised by the National Youth Peace Foundation in collaboration with the district administration and the Police.
The programme opened with a two-minute silence for the victims of Pahalgam and the recent natural disasters, followed by addresses by religious and community leaders, including M A Ahangar, Muhammad Talat, Ridakshi Ganjoo, Dr Harbaksh Singh, and Simran Kour Raina.
Each speaker drew on their faith traditions to stress peace and coexistence.
Chairman of the foundation, Musaddiq Reyaz Bhat, said the event sought to send “a strong message of peace, interfaith harmony, and unity to every corner of the world.”
He said that dialogue and cultural exchange were essential to building lasting peace.
Cultural performances highlighting Kashmiri traditions were also staged.
The Traders Federation, Bar Association representatives, and civil society leaders attended, along with Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Pulwama.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pulwama, P D Nitya, urged participants to reject violence and embrace dialogue.
“We must work together for a peaceful and progressive society,” she said.
The programme was welcomed locally as a show of unity in diversity and a reaffirmation of Pulwama’s commitment to peace and communal solidarity.
