Srinagar, Dec 26: In a significant development today, representatives of the Power Employees United Front (PUEF) met with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to discuss a range of pressing issues affecting power sector employees in the region. The delegation, led by union leaders, raised concerns about the welfare of daily wage workers, their regularisation, and the support for families of daily wagers who have passed away.

The meeting also touched upon the ongoing issue of converting the Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (KPDCL) back into the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (PDD).

One of the major concerns highlighted during the meeting was the issue of unpaid salaries, which the union described as “the backbone of our families.”

The employees expressed their distress over the delayed salary payments, urging for immediate attention and resolution.

The Union also brought up the case filed by Shadi Lal, which was discussed in detail, and expressed the need for clarity and swift action on the matter.

The Chief Minister listened attentively to the grievances and assured the representatives that all the issues raised during the meeting would be addressed. He emphasised his commitment to resolving the concerns of power sector employees and ensuring that their rights are protected.

The Chief Minister expressed his understanding of the difficult circumstances faced by daily wage workers and their families, and assured the union that a comprehensive plan would be put in place to resolve the issue of regularisation and provide support to the families of deceased workers. He also promised that the salary issue would be given top priority, with a clear timeline for resolution.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with the Chief Minister reiterating his commitment to the well-being of power employees and their families. The Power Employees United Front expressed hope that the Chief Minister’s assurances would lead to meaningful and prompt action on the issues discussed.
