Sopore, Jan 7:

Massive protests erupted in Amargarh are of Sopore in north Kashmir's Baramulla district over scarcity of drinking water supply.

The residents of the area blocked the Baramulla -Sopore highway as a mark of protest against the Jal Shakti Department saying that the authorities have failed to provide drinking water facilities to the area.

"We have been without drinking water facilities for over a month now. We are fetching water from unhygienic sources which poses serious health hazards," the protesting residents said.

Amid the protest and the traffic jam witnessed on the highway, the Police officials reached the spot to restore traffic and pacify the protesting residents.

In wake of the protest, the officials from the Ja Shakti Department assured the residents that water tankers will be provided to the area as a temporary measure to resolve the issue.
