Protect water bodies from pollution: Tanvir Sadiq
Srinagar, Feb 2: On the occasion of World Wetlands Day, National Conference (NC) Chief Spokesperson and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, has urged the public, especially those residing near lakes, rivers, ponds, springs, and other water bodies, to take active responsibility in protecting these invaluable natural resources from pollution and encroachment.
In a statement, he highlighted the importance of water conservation. “Water bodies are a gift from God, and it is our collective duty to preserve them. Pollution and encroachment pose serious threats that must be tackled to ensure a sustainable and healthy environment,” Sadiq said.
He recalled that during the governments led by Omar Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah, crores of rupees were secured from the Central Government to protect and clean the water bodies of Kashmir. “These efforts were aimed at restoring the pristine beauty of these water bodies, which are not only vital for the ecosystem but also serve as a source of livelihood and tourism for the region,” the MLA said.
Sadiq made a strong appeal to the people to refrain from encroaching on riverbanks and lake shores, as such activities cause irreversible damage to the ecosystem and lead to severe environmental consequences. He particularly emphasised the significance of Dal Lake, Anchar Lake anchar lake, and Khushal Sar. “These water bodies are not just natural assets but also major tourist destinations and a source of income for many. It is our duty to ensure their protection and conservation. Let us all pledge to protect our water bodies for future generations," he urged.
