Kupwara, Dec 11: Police on Wednesday attached two storey building comprising two shops and a hall of a notorious drug peddler at Bedrah Payeen in Kralgund area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

The action was taken after Police discovered during investigation that this property was acquired through proceeds of drug trafficking.

Meanwhile police in a statement said, "Continuing its action against drug peddlers Handwara Police attached two story building comprising of two shops and one hall belonging to a notorious drug peddler namely Reyaz Ahmad Lone son of Sonullah Lone, resident of Bedrah Payeen under section 68-F of NDPS Act 1985,".

"The said peddler is found involved in FIR No. 84/2020 U/S 8/21 NDPS Act of PS Kralgund. The property was identified as illegally acquired property during the course of investigation/enquiry conducted by Kralgund Police. The property was prima facie acquired from illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances by the owner. The notorious drug peddler is currently under detention at Kote-bilwal Jammu under PIT-NDPS Act," reads the statement.

"This operation reaffirms the commitment of Handwara Police to combat the drug menace. Local people of the area hailed the initiative of Handwara Police with regard to the attachment of immovable properties which has been raised/ used from illicit trafficking of narcotics by the drug peddler in the Police District Handwara," reads the statement further.
