Anantnag, Nov 27: Police in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district attached properties worth Rs 2 crore belonging to a drug peddler in the Srigufwara area of south Kashmir.

This is the eighth property seizure this month under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, targeting habitual offenders involved in drug trafficking.

According to a Police official, the latest action involved the seizure of a double-storey residential house along with 1 kanal land, owned by Muhammad Amin Malik of Kanalwan.

“Malik, a habitual offender, was involved in Case FIR No 113/2021 registered at Police Station Srigufwara, where a significant quantity of narcotics was recovered,” the official said.

This action follows a series of property attachments worth crores of rupees aimed at curbing the drug menace:

On November 9, a property worth Rs 50 lakh was attached in Poshkeri, Srigufwara.

On November 18, property worth Rs 1.5 crore was attached in Kehribal, Mattan.

On November 25, property worth Rs 1.6 crore was attached in Aishmuqam and Sadoora.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anantnag, G V Sundeep Chakravarthy said that only the properties of repeat offenders are being attached.

“The accused have multiple cases registered against them and their assets are believed to have been acquired through illegal drug trade,” he said.

SSP Chakravarthy said that these decisive actions reflect the Police’s commitment to eradicating drug trafficking and dismantling the infrastructure supporting this illegal trade.

“By leveraging the provisions of the NDPS Act, we aim to send a strong deterrent message to those involved in the narcotics business,” he said.

In a statement, a Police spokesman reaffirmed the dedication of Police in Anantnag to fostering a drug-free society and reiterated their resolve to continue strict actions against individuals and groups involved in narcotics trafficking.

“This ongoing crackdown is part of a broader initiative to create a safer and healthier community, with the Police promising relentless efforts to uproot the drug menace in the district,” it said.
