Property acquired through illicit drug trade will be seized: SSP Shopian

Shopian, Feb 6: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Shopian, Tanushree Tuesday said that the Police would confiscate the assets of drug peddlers procured through the illicit trade of drugs.

“Action will be taken against all the drug peddlers. We are working seriously on it. The properties they have amassed through illicit trade of drugs will be seized,” she said addressing a news conference at District Police Lines (DPL) Shopian.

The SSP said that the Police were taking serious measures against the drug peddlers and already achieved significant success in keeping the scourge of drugs off the society.

She said that since 2023, Police arrested 126 drug peddlers and booked 13 accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS).

Tanushree said that 98 cases have been registered in the district since the year 2023.

Giving a rundown about the contraband items seized from the drug peddlers, she said around 433 kg of poppy straw and fukki, 215 kg of charras, 1.65 kg heroin, and Rs 50 lakh cash was recovered from the drug peddlers.

The SSP said that 18 vehicles involved in the transportation of contraband had also been confiscated.

“We have also frozen the bank accounts of 10 accused and initiated the process of property seizure against two of them,” she said.

Tanushree said that the Police would continue its drive against drug peddlers.
