Project Sampark carries out snow clearance operation in Doda, Kishtwar

Jammu, Feb 27: Project Sampark of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) carried out a snow clearance operation to provide safe passage to the commuters in Doda and Kishtwar in the past few days.

Doda and Kishtwar area witnessed a heavy snowfall along with rainfall in the past few days. This resulted in many far-flung villages being cut off due to snow accumulation and avalanches, which caused heavy landslides and created high risks to the road commuters.

“With an aim to ensure connectivity and safety for the residents, assisting the district administration, tourism authorities and supporting the livelihood of the inhabitants, the Project Sampark of BRO through its 35 BRTF n 118 RCC sprang into action by deploying all the machinery, resources and manpower to undertake the time critical task of snow clearance and provide safe passage to the commuters,” said PRO Defence Lt Col Suneel Bartwal.

He stated that advanced machinery and equipment were deployed to clear avalanche and landslides occurring in the Kishtwar region. Timely snow clearance and road connectivity was ensured to assist the population in this adverse climatic condition. BRO roped in additional resources in the sector to improve and maintain its aim of providing 24x7 connectivity and safe passage to the residents and road users, he said.

“The snow clearance activities were carried out even during night time to rescue the tourists and inhabitants stuck in the higher reaches due to Snow/ landslides. It has been of utmost importance for BRO to ensure that entire road stretches are kept open to handle any unforeseen situation in a time bound manner,” Lt Col Bartwal said.
