Proficiency in Fingerprint Science: 40 J&K Police officers attend first stage of 12-week course
Srinagar, Jun 20: J&K Police officers and officials successfully underwent the first stage of an intensive 12-week course on "Proficiency in Fingerprint Science". As per a press release, this course, a joint effort between the Central Fingerprint Bureau (CFPB) and National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), commenced on April 15 at DPL Jammu and was primarily focussed on making the trainees well versed in the Fingerprint science and ultimately aid in solving the crimes.
“These selected officers—including Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors, Head Constables and Constables—dove deep into the world of fingerprint science. They were briefed regarding the various aspects of Fingerprint science, viz. identification of fingerprints, lifting of these prints, analysing/ comparing them and processing the same for uploading on to the NAFIS platform. It was a hands-on exposure at every step of the training programme, with the goal to sharpen the skill sets, crucial for the cracking of criminal cases,” said the statement.
Today, on culmination of the tenth week of the Phase-I of the said course, Mohd Yousif, SSP, Fingerprint Bureau, J&K, praised their commitment and motivation exhibited during the course. He briefed the trainees about the next phase of the training which will start with the Delhi Police, at New Delhi wherein they will get exposed to the practical implications of this training at the various Police Stations of Delhi Police for one week. Subsequently, the second week will be at the Central Fingerprint Bureau at New Delhi, wherein they will be subjected to final assessment.
“The said course is an initiative to make the trainees officers/ officials of J&K Police proficient in fingerprint analysis. It is the first step towards filling the gap between the requirement and availability of the fingerprint proficient/ experts in J&K, giving our police force a significant boost in their criminal investigation capabilities,” it said. This maiden initiative was conceptualised and inaugurated by MK Sinha, IPS, ADGP Hqrs, PHQ, J&K under the aegis of Crime Branch Headquarters, J&K in time-to-time guidance of Dr Sunil Gupta, IPS, IGP Crime, J&K. Mohd Yusif, JKPS, SSP, FPB J&K supervised the course. Jagpal Sharma, Dy. SP NAFIS, J&K was the nodal officer of the said course. Ajay Singh, Dy. Supdt. Fingerprint, . Dhananjay Yadav and Narinder Pahade, Inspector Fingerprints, CFPB were the expert resource person, from CFPB, New Delhi, during the training.
